spider behavior
Lifestyle varies between species of spiders. Some spiders like to live in basements, and crawl spaces. Other spiders prefer warm dry locations, such as air vents, ceiling corner and attics. And, still others hide in dark areas.
All spiders produce silk but not all spin webs with it. Silk is sticky, elastic and roughly 5 times as strong as steel. Spun silk is used for climbing, building walls around a burrow, encasing egg sacks, building web for ensnaring prey, and wrapping prey for their larder. Each web's size and shape is varied according to the spider. Some webs are orb-shaped, while others are funnel-shaped, orderly, haphazard, etc.
Some spider species are active hunters while other wait in burrows, webs or some type of crevice for prey to come to them.

venomous spiders: handled safely by Mechanicsville Pest Control in va
Almost all spiders have a toxic bite used to subdue prey, but most are ineffective against humans. In-fact, many spiders can't pierce human skin. The black widow, brown recluse, hobo, and yellow sac spiders are the most venomous spiders in the United States.
Spider Bites:
Black Widow Spiders: Characterized by the hourglass marking on its belly. The bite feels like a pinprick. Signs and symptoms of the bite can include: swelling, faint red marks, intense pain and stiffness, severe abdominal pain or cramping, excessive sweating. Webs are commonly found near the ground displaying an irregular shape, uneven or tangled.
Brown Recluse Spiders: Known by a violin-shaped marking on its back that may be difficult to see unless you get very close which could be dangerous. Bite symptoms are at first a mild stinging, redness followed by a blister at bite site, mild to intense pain and itching for 2 to 8 hours within 8 hours of bite and an open sore that develops a week later showing a deep blue or purple shading around the bite (which may develop a red ring around it). The problem with these bites is the surrounding tissue death that can take weeks or months to fully heal. Webs are commonly found in storage boxes, shoes, clothing, tires, beneath furniture; the web is loose, sticky, and off-white or grayish
Hobo Spiders: Even though the bite of a Hobo Spider is initially painless, it can be serious. A redness will first appear around the bite site, which will develop into a blister after 24 hours, before breaking open, leaving an open, oozing ulceration. The bite might also cause severe headaches lasting 2 to 7 days and even nausea, weakness, fatigue, malaise, temporary memory loss and vision impairment. Their webs are spun in a funnel-like shape.
Yellow Sac Spiders: This species has a mildly toxic venom. Bites can be painful and cause skin irritations: erythema, edema and pruritis. Yet, though wounds may become slightly necrotic, they usually heal in rather rapidly without severe scarring. They create a sac instead of a web, and prefer a corner usually near the ceiling.
